Seed Hawk 400-800C

The unique Seed Hawk dual narrow knife with integrated packer wheel places the seed and fertiliser exactly where you want them, irrespective of contours, ground conditions and surface trash. The seedbed that the knife creates is ideal for seed germination, by disturbing the minimum amount of soil and therefore preserving moisture.
Accurate shallow seeding Placing the seed close to the surface helps to get the crop off to a good start and boosts yield and grade. Direct seeding or minimum tillage provides more moisture and so shallow seeding is possible to speed up germination. The ‘furrow effect’ places the seed in the optimum position for access to fertiliser and moisture. The seed is always placed on firm undisturbed soil. The hydraulically controlled 100mm wide packer wheels consolidate and seal the furrows to give good seed to soil contact and to improve capillary action, drawing moisture towards the seed.
Precise fertiliser placement The dual knife system ensures that the fertiliser is placed closed enough to the seed to help with 'pop up', but far enough away to avoid seed damage. Precise nutrient placement means that the fertiliser is available to the seed throughout the growing season, but is not readily available to the weeds inbetween the seed rows.
Faster soil warming The dual 12mm narrow knives and 100mm packer wheels create a blackened furrow, the ideal environment for seed establishment.

Adjustable coulter pressure from the cab
Seed Hawk is available with adjustable coulter pressure from the cab via Control-Station. That allows the coulter pressure to be optimised from the cab on the go to suit varying soil texture and conditions in the field. This gives increased control and more exact drilling depth. Older machines can be complemented with this function. With Control-Station, many functions can be set from the cab and the drill operator receives all information in a clear and accessible way. Control- Station can be fitted with an extra unit (Remote Control) for remote control of fertilisation, drilling or coulter pressure. The coulter pressure can be increased or decreased in 20 programmable steps. It is quick and easy to return to the pre-set pressure.

Hot spot
Hydraulic fans
| The hydraulic fan can be set at different speeds to ensure good transport of product without unnecessary bounce in the seed furrow. |

Large accessible tank
The hopper holds a total of 3 900 litres and is divided into two compartments. The hopper has a clean and spacious design that improves the view into the machine and makes service easy. At the bottom of the hopper there is a protective grating that prevents foreign objects reaching the seed meter, while also acting as a floor. |

Metering System
The metering system is the same as on all Väderstad Rapid pneumatic drills and has a good reputation for precision and reliability. The Fenix meter is a fluted roller housed inside an adjustable barrel. The barrel slides across the roller to allow for different seed sizes. Radar measures the forward speed and the hydraulically driven rollers meter out the seed and fertiliser. The material is blown through two distributor heads to the respective knives.
Variable rate and GPS It is easy to vary the seed and fertilizer rate on the go. With one press of a button the dose can be stepped up or down and metering responds immediately. This function can also be performed automatically by connecting the Control-Station to a GPS-system. |

Tractor tread wheels
A broader, tractor tread tyre is available as option for Seed Hawk. This increases the bearing capacity, decreases the risk of soil compaction and, not least, increases trafficability in wet conditions. The tractor tread tyre leaves a more weatherproof surface. They also allow the machine to travel smoothly on the road at speed.

Distribution heads
| The Linac distribution heads are used to give uniform distribution of seed and fertiliser across the width of the machine. The electric shut off valves automatically block off the relevant rows when tramlining. |

Maize seeding
| The Seed Hawk can easily be set up to seed forage maize. A hydraulic valve is operated which holds the front two rows of openers up and just the back row of openers are put down into work. This gives a row spacing of 76 cm (30"). |

Tractor hitch
| Mounting the machine on the tractor link arms enables the machine to turn tightly on the headlands minimising the size of headland required. |

Fertiliser
| The fertiliser knife in the drilling unit has been reinforced with double wearing plates for greatly improved life. This new fertiliser knife can be retrofitted on existing Seed Hawk machines. |
